In a new publication in the Journal of Product Innovation Management (VHB A), Prof. Dr. Hensellek and Prof. Dr. Graf-Vlachy, together with co-authors from the University of Passau, examine the role of outside board directors’ social capital in digital innovation in companies. Using a sample of US retail companies, they show that outside directors with a good network in elite circles promote innovation, while outside directors with a great deal of experience with old technologies dampen innovation, and that these two effects can weaken each other.
